The Power of Clarity - & How You Can Get Yours!
The Power of Clarity and How You Can Get Yours!
In the last week, I’ve been reminded of the power of clarity. My company, Think Productive, have been writing and honing a new strategy for the business (pivoting, zooming, you get the idea). It’s been an interesting process watching ideas that felt clear in my mind get slowly clearer in the minds of the rest of the team — and some ideas that felt strong but hazy in my mind get developed a polished by the team into something better than my original idea.
I’ve also spent the week honing ideas for a new book (more of which in the coming weeks). It’s interesting how the more I write something down or the more I’m challenged on the spot just to explain the concepts to other people, the clearer it all forms in my own mind.
Then on Friday, I co-delivered a free webinar called ‘How to Stop Procrastinating….Tomorrow’, which again reminded me of the power of having clarity in your ideas — basically the clearer you are about your purpose, your projects, and the next physical actions you need to take the small steps towards the big goals, the less likely you are to waste time feeling anxious, lost, demotivated or mindlessly pursuing stuff that isn’t fit for purpose.
Clarity is always about specificity. I challenge you this week to look at your to-do list or a big problem and throw this simple question at it: “how can I get more specific here?”. For a problem where you’re stuck, the specificity might be in better defining the problem first (before you can think more clearly about the solution), whereas, for your to-do list, it’s almost always about the language we’re using with ourselves — creating a ‘next physical action’, where if you close your eye you can picture what you’d be doing to get momentum is very different from writing ‘make progress’ on your to-do list.
If you want more clarity in your life, I can help! For the last 12 years, I’ve been helping companies, teams, and individuals to reach ever-higher levels of productivity. Most of what I help people with you can get for a tenner in my book How to be a Productivity Ninja. But often, it’s not the knowledge that’s the problem — it’s finding the time and the space to implement it.
I get it. You have loads going on, you can read the book next year, you don’t have time to make big changes right now. Yes, I’ve heard all those excuses for not taking action before. And do you know what? It’s my biggest frustration in the work that I do around productivity — the people who need me the most are often the ones who resist my help the most too!
So that’s why I’ve chunked everything I teach down into a 6-week evening class format. The idea is that everyone can find a couple of hours, one evening a week (hey, it’s gonna be a looooong winter — there’s time!). It’s the first time I’ve taught productivity in this way and I’m really excited to share it with you.
The idea is that we’ll create a community of practice around the concepts from ‘Productivity Ninja’. We will keep each other accountable on a WhatsApp group, and each week, step by step, I’ll help you implement more of the Ninja philosophy into your working life. We won’t mess around with case studies and the like.. we’ll get your real inbox to zero, focus on your real projects and help you feel a genuine sense of purpose, Zen-like Calm, and develop playful, productive momentum.
